Galveston Naval Museum
This is our chance to experience the actual living space onboard a WWII sub and a destroyer.
Both the destroyer escort USS Stewart and submarine USS Cavalla played pivotal roles in the
Pacific Theater.

Walking Tour with Ed Cotham
Two-hour walking tour of Confederate sites along the Strand. Ed is a prize-winning author of
many books and articles on Civil War history, emphasizing the battles and skirmishes in Texas. He
is also very interested in nautical history and has served as project historian for several important
Civil War shipwreck projects.

Drive to ferry; ferry to Bolivar
3:00-4:30pm
Tour Fort Travis with Judith Rinks and Ralph Stenzel
Fort Travis was the first fort established by the Republic of Texas (1836) to protect the
Galveston harbor entrance. Judith and Ralph will give us a tour of the batteries at Fort Travis,
and a tour of Battery Kimble and Battery 236.

Lone Star Flight Museum
Docent-led tour of the Lone Star Flight Museum, one of the top flying museums in the U.S. The
museum displays over 40 significant aircraft and over 1500 artifacts that demonstrate the
quantum leap in technology – from gliders to space – over the past century. (Check out the
museum’s website if you are interested in purchasing a personal vintage aircraft ride.)

San Jacinto Museum of History
Docent-led tour of San Jacinto Battleground. On the site is Battleship Texas which is under
renovation and can only be seen from the outside. Then self-guided tour of the museum.
4:00-5:00pm
Camp Wallace
Docent-led tour of Camp Wallace, a World War II Camp established in 1941 near Hitchcock. It is
named after Colonel Elmer J. Wallace of the 59th Coast Artillery who was fatally wounded in
the Meuse-Argonne offensive of 1918. It became a U.S. Navy facility in 1944 and was closed and
declared surplus in 1946.
